The Hollywood Reporter TM Reviews The Pacific SM !

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

In a recent review of the upcoming HBO ® miniseries, THR calls The Pacific “a gem of a production” which “conveys a sense of the combat experience that is as complete and realistic as any work of film could be.”

The new 10-part miniseries, from the executive producers of Band of Brothers®, portrays the real-life stories of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie, John Basilone, and Eugene Sledge across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War II. As THR says, The Pacific presents the war “from the vantage point of the Marines who deployed where they were told, rested when they could and then fought somewhere else” and captures their world of drama “including the Marines’ anxiety about the unknown, their tugs of instant passion, their acceptance of barbaric warfare and, above all else, their painful and unexpected confrontations with their own mortality.”
